Professor Kaylyn

Professor Kaylyn asked the children if they thought she could blow up the balloon without using her mouth on it?  They raised their hands to vote and then she told us about which materials she had in front of her.  She brought in vinegar, water, a funnel and a balloon with baking soda inside of it.  The procedure was : place a little bit water in the bottom of the water bottle, use the funnel to add vinegar, then attach the balloon to the top of the water bottle.  Inside the balloon she had some baking soda.  Professor Kaylyn shook the baking soda into the liquids and we all watched to see what happened.

We talked about the reaction of the liquid and the baking soda, which expelled a gas into the balloon, helping it to inflate itself (blow itself up) .  Professor did exactly what she asked the class.  They were amazed.  We think you can try this at home as well.  Thank you Professor Kaylyn.
